Access GIS imagery, point cloud and business data

With AutoCAD Map 3D software, you can access and use CAD and GIS data from a range of sources. With comprehensive gas, water, wastewater and electric industry data models, you can more easily organise disparate asset information and apply industry standards and business requirements.

Topographical data access and editing

Topographical data directly from the source
Using open-source Feature Data Object (FDO) technology, AutoCAD Map 3D provides direct access to GIS data from many spatial and topographical data sources.

Data sources include ESRI files and managed geodatabases, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostGIS, PostgreSQL, SQLite and MySQL. Access aerial and satellite imagery and connect to web mapping and web feature services to take advantage of publicly available data. Direct access means no data translations, which helps to support data integrity. The open, standards-based database support enables you to join CAD objects more easily to commonly used databases and spreadsheets and to store CAD and geospatial data in relational database management and GIS systems.

Data access and management (enhanced)
Enhanced Microsoft Excel spreadsheet abilities enable you to join attribute and GIS data and edit the Excel data stored inside AutoCAD Map 3D.

Additionally, improved spatial database tools enable you to store and use multiple geometric representations of your infrastructure assets, giving you the flexibility to choose the geometry that best suits your deliverable requirements.

Survey functionality
Rich survey tools enable you to easily import, compute and manage field measurements and topographical data acquired from GPS and terrestrial sources.
< br> Survey functionality includes the ability to use custom field codes that can be mapped to database attributes, making asset collection more efficient. Additional survey functionality includes:

  • Leica GSI, CPlan RO, ASCII point and LandXML data import

Surfaces and point cloud tools
Create large-scale surface models from points and contour data, and create contours from surfaces.

Visualise and analyse topographical data, including digital level models (DGM) and ESRI GRID files for level, crossfall and aspect. Drape aerial photographs and vector data onto surfaces for revealing 3D renderings and perform sunlight studies with hill shading. Additional point cloud tools enable you to import and visualise large sets of 3D laser scanning/LIDAR data sets (often with hundreds of millions of points). You can also stylise point clouds by LAS classification, spatial extents, elevation or intensity.

Commercial basemap and geolocation tools enable you to bring in aerial data, roads and hybrid aerial-road maps.

You can geocode and reverse geocode points based on address, capture and incorporate data from aerial photography and convert to vector data.

Create co-ordinate systems
Search for or create co-ordinate systems using custom grid files and use modern algorithms for transforming co-ordinate systems.

Work with more than 4,000 real-world co-ordinate systems or define and manage your own custom co-ordinate system. Perform on-the-fly co-ordinate transformations and use tools such as Transform, Rubbersheeting and Track Co-ordinates for more accurate georeferencing with your AutoCAD software design data.

Create and edit symbols
Import common public-domain symbols into a mapping environment and edit them to meet specific requirements.

Dynamic tooltips and links
Roll over a feature to display properties, such as tooltips and links.

Manage spatial data in almost any format and use out-of-the-boxes industry models available for both stand-alone and enterprise environments.

Create and modify your own data models more quickly and easily using powerful data modelling tools. Move and convert data from one data store to another.

Access industry models in more formats
Access industry models in Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle systems.

With the enhanced FDO provider, you can work with enterprise industry models on SQL Server as you would Oracle systems.

Workflows and feature rules
Using the Microsoft Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), it's easier to automate repetitive tasks.

Build, save and share simple and complex workflows with a visual editor. Facilitate more accurate data updates by using custom feature rules and workflows for industry models.

Convert data to intelligent industry models (enhanced)
Create and manage intelligent industry models by converting GIS and CAD data.

Populate a new industry model from FDO data sources or DWG files and map feature classes and attributes. Then they can convert the data to a model and save the database as a DWG/DWT file for use in future projects. Convert existing CAD and GIS, AutoCAD software data and other GIS datasets.

Configure linear referencing systems
Develop a linear referencing system (LRS) application, such as a rail or transportation module.

Within your new industry model, define the LRS based on existing assets and line segments. Then include a prefix for your LRS, helping to specify the feature classes in your system. After you define new custom feature classes, configure the LRS by adding asset relationships. Then, open and manage a road or railway LRS template.

Industry model analysis
Use connectivity information built into the industry models to identify connected facilities or analyse the impact of actions on your infrastructure.

Publishing and interoperability

Take industry model data off-line (enhanced)
With off-line editing and synchronisation, users can check out industry model data to work locally in the field or with other software.

Extract data in queued edit mode and bring it into the design process using AutoCAD Utility Design software (US site), or share it with workers in the field who use Infrastructure Map Server (US site) software. When your work is complete, sync and merge the data back into the industry model.

Desktop to web to A360 (enhanced)
Store AutoCAD software drawings, project files and map drawing files in an easy-to-access on-line workspace using A360 (US site).

View and edit your designs on-line or on your mobile device and share and collaborate easily with others. The AutoCAD WS (US site) web and mobile application for AutoCAD enables you to view, edit and share DWG drawings and GIS maps on-line using A360.

Publish directly to the web
Distribute your geospatial data, designs and GIS maps on-line in ways that meet your organisation's needs.

Publish to the Internet using the Infrastructure Map Server application (US site). Or distribute drawings as individual georeferenced DWF files, multi-sheet DWF map books, or paper plots. Also, you can publish a single DWG or multiple drawing files into a single map definition.

Interoperate with AutoCAD and GIS software
Read, write and convert data between widely used formats.

Dynamic legends, north arrows and scale bars
Improve public view documents, such as maps and exhibits, with north arrows, scale bars, dynamic legends and more viewports within the exhibit.
